Head Gasket related 95 civic dx?

Does the engine have to overheat if the head gasket is blown?

No, but it is certain that coolant will disappear. Whenever I hear of a suspected head gasket problem without mention of coolant disappearing I am very dubious. Signs of water in the oil or "white smoke" (steam) coming from the exhaust are usually red herrings – normal engine operation will do both of those.

Note there are other reasons for coolant disappearing but I have never known of head gasket failure that did not include coolant loss into the cylinders.

most common issues are from overheating
the rest is loosing alot of coolant in a short amount of time

if the head gasket is blown, that may lead into that but if the coolant level has dropped.

no.

Honda accord 88 question?

Why do I have to force my car for order for it too have power????

Force it or force your foot to the floor? Because foot to the floor is what 95 horsepower will force you to do… to merge on the freeway.

lolit little 88hp motor probably, if its not the 1.6 with the 88. the ones you find in america of that generation arnt really gonna exceed about 110 hp so that could be your problem, also the fact that its an 88.. so there is no telling what is wrong with it. Watch this video…. i think you might like it if you like hondas =]

Honda crv whistling noise?

My 2001 Honda crv runs great, no real issues except that as you go past 60 mph it starts making a whistling sound. It doesn’t sound like its the engine. It seems like it might be the air traveling between the body and wing mirror. Anyone else having this issue and any ideas on fixes?

noises can be a bear to find the source of. i had a noise that turned out to the related to the antenna.

What’s the difference between the streetglow blue line series and the gold series?

i wanna buy the blue line series because it’s way cheaper..but what’s the difference between that and the gold series? does the blue line still look good? help mee

The gold series comes with a heavier duty casing around the neon tubes as well as a better control module so they are a bit brighter and supposedly last a bit longer.

That said…please reconsider putting this kind of crap on your car, I’m all for personal taste and wanting to be unique, but neon lights on anything but a pure show car that doesn’t get driven and spends 100% of its time at car shows is really tacky and cheesy looking.

Can I install seat belts from a Honda Accord 2 door into a 4 door Accord?

Both cars are 2000 Honda Accords. My car is a 4 door and the "donor" car is a 2 door. My dog destroyed my front passenger and front driver side seat belts and I am considering these to replace them: http://www.ebay.com/itm/98-00-ACCORD-seat-belt-FRONT-Left-seatbelts-tan-2dr-2-door-oem-/230714695835?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A2000%7CMake%3AHonda%7CModel%3AAccord&vxp=mtr&hash=item35b7aae09b

yeah

if the mount points for the buckles and the seat belt frame bolt line up to your cars setup then have a blast

’96 – ’98 Honda Civics?

I am absolutely in LOVE with chevy cobalts, but I’m on a budget. I’m only sixteen, so obviously I don’t have too much money. Buuuut I’ve been looking at 96 – 98 honda civics and I like them. The kinda resemble the cobalt, in my opinion. But anyway, I was wondering are those years pretty good cars? I’m not trying to buy anything that’s gonna shiiiit out on me for quite a few years. Also, I don’t know much about cars and I was wondering..is their a certain name for the civics that have the skinny tailights and the bigger headlights? I don’t like the ones with the skinny head lights and big tail lights.

I would also appreciate suggestion for more cars that I might be interested in? Or just cars that are going fairly cheap, in general.

-Thanks :D

Well, I usually don’t like to persuade people into my way of thinking, but in my opinion the 90′s Honda Civics are better vehicles than a Chevy Cobalt. I could go into details about how great the suspension setups are, but I will just let you know the information that you are probably looking for:

You should be able to find a 90′s model Civic in good condition for no more than about $3000. If you can find one that has not been modified (no big exhaust system, no shiny air intakes, not spray-painted anywhere on it etc.,) then it should be a very reliable car for you. They get very good gas mileage, somewhere around 30 mpg, they are cheap to insure, and if anything should go wrong on them, then they are pretty inexpensive to repair. In general, a Honda Civic is a good car; fun to drive, inexpensive to own and insure, and well built.

As for the designs you are talking about with the skinny headlights and big taillights, I am unclear, but I believe you are referring to the different years of Civics. My personal favorite design is either the 1992-95 models or the 1999-2000. But all the Civics made from 1992 to 2000 are very very similar, and in my opinion you can’t go wrong with any model year of Civic.

essentially to me civics are just expensive lawnmowers, they’re great on gas and the parts are very cheap.. my friend did a water pump on his 98 civic and it only costed him like 15 bucks. they’re the best years if you just wanna use it for point A to point B and not trick it out like most people do and add coffee can mufflers and park bench spoilers for the down force they’ll never need cause the car will never go that fast.

but just keeping it clean, keep the oil changed, trans flush every 50 or so thousand, keep the fluids topped off and you’ll have a car that will run great. older hondas usually the car falls apart before the engine gives away (IF MAINTAINED PROPERLY)

Rubbing noise accelerating from brake 2003 Honda ?

I have a 2003 Honda civic hybrid automatic that I just bought. When I am at a full stop when I accelerate after releasing the brake, it makes a rubbing noise for like 1 second. It runs perfect after that second. I think it’s the brakes releasing too slow or not enough. If I let it sit for a second in between releasing the brake an accelerating the noise is less loud. Another reason I think it’s the brake is because when I am in drive and release the brake it sits still for a second before it rolls forward. Any ideas? I’m planning on getting it checked out but still asking opinions. thanks!

piston in the caliber could be sticking, try taking the caliber off and compressing the piston with a clamp, drain the some fluid from the master cylinder first or you’ll have a nice mess of brake fluid. if the piston is hard to compress then you could have a bad caliber, do it on whatever side seems to have the rubbing noise

What motor would be best to supe up a 91 civic hatch?

I’m used to muscle cars, hot rods, and old pickups, so this Honda thing is still a little new. I’m not an idiot when it comes to mechanics though, I know what I’m doing, I just don’t have the insight with foreign cars as I do with American built. Anyways what motor would be best? Here are some things I am taking into consideration:

I am a college student, so money isn’t extremely plentiful (but I am saving with my 40mpg now)
I want the swap to be fairly simple, with no major complications. A d series would be ideal, but I wouldn’t mind going through a little extra hassle if it got me a bit more power!
Should I go SOHC or DOHC?
Obviously want a vtec.. lol
Also, a motor that would have a good possibility of turbo-ing down the road.

Well with all of those in mind, hit me up with suggestions! Thanks guys!

No "fairly simple" swap exist unless you use the same engine, which is useless for what you look for, even a very small engine change, you will need several change in engine management (ECU), so not cheap, Turbo is in my opinion out of range for you right now, its going to cost $5000 USD, maybe more than the car is worth.

You can use a car performance simulator (NxGTR Sim) to virtually tune your car and run performance test to see how the car would improve in real life, try at http://goo.gl/5GDa2

Since Honda Civics had a very similar chassis from 88-00 it would be fairly simple to swap in a d-series from a newer Civic. A good option to look into would be a d16z6 or d16y8, they are a 1.6 liter SOHC VTEC 16 valve that make about 125-130 hp stock, and that amount of hp in that light of a vehicle would be fairly quick, plus it would still give you pretty good mpg. They are fairly easy motors to find as the d16z6 was in plenty of Civics up until about 1996, and up until 2000, the y8 was put in a lot of them. They are good motors, however if you are looking to Turbo, you may want to consider a non-vtec build.

For more power you may look into DOHC B-series. These were put in various top-trim Civics and Integras and the chassis were similar, so just like the d16z6 or y8 the swap would not require any custom modifications or fabrications as you should be able to find factory motor mounts and shift linkage that will fit on your hatch. The B16′s were all vtec and make anywhere from 160-180 hp depending on the model (b16a1,b16a3,b16b1,etc.,) but they are a bit more expensive than a D-series. If you want to go turbo down the road I would recommend a b18a1 or b18b1 from an integra, as they are non-vtec and at a good compression ratio for turbo applications. Since they are fairly plentiful they are pretty cheap and easy to find. They should make about 140 hp stock without a turbo which is still good power for your car.

Why is my Honda CRV 1997 vibrating when idling, mostly on the left side you can see the mirror shaking ?

when the vehicle is is motion at about 40KM it goes away, and it make an unusual noise when taking off. its an Auto?

The first thing to check would be the basics like spark plugs, ignition wires, cap and rotor. If these are old(or original) you should change them all since it is part of basic maintenance. The vibration could also be a bad engine mount, the noise could be unrelated and be a bad or loose accessory belt.

You need an oil change as soon as possible!

What are the best tires for Honda civic EX 2009?

Can someone tell me what are the good tires for my honda Civic EX 2009? It came with Bridgestone 205/55/16. I drive a lot (600 miles/week on the highway). Sears has Cooper for cheap. There are also some expensive brands like Michelin. i am looking for an economic price range, but, a smooth ride. Can someone advise me please???????? Thanks in advance….

Michelin is the way I’d go. However depending on the performance category you want, General tire UHP makes a good summer street tire for the price and allows for some fun on the track if you’re into that. If you plan to really put on the miles, get a tire that will allow you to drive farther. If you search online at www.tirerack.com and search your size you’ll get plenty of options to choose from along with professional and personal ratings.

Besides 600 miles isn’t a lot. I used to put that on my older Taurus in a day.

Arya,

There are several economically priced tire in a 205/15-16 size.If you drive that many miles you want a tire that is both long lasting and comfortable.Allow me to suggest the following:

Goodyear Assurance ComforTred Touring – $134 a tire from tirerack.com
Probably the best all around touring tire on the market at the moment.Smooth, good performance, and will stand up to a lot of miles.Yes, a bit expensive but well worth it.

Hankook Optimo H727 – $107
This is the best tire for the price, period. Can easily last 60 to 80k miles.Great in winter driving as well.Simply your best bang for the buck!Pretty sure Sears will stock them.

Continental ExtremeContact DWS – $99
What more of a performance tire? Then this is the one.Great handling and grip. Can handle the ice and snow as well.

Michelin Primacy MXV4 – $138
Another top rated touring tire. One of the most popular tires in the country.Great wear, great ride.Expensive, but a great choice.

Good luck!
